Can't get remote to work on bicep curls -- help!

I have been using Active for a few days and no matter what, I cannot get the bicep curls to work! I have tried repositioning the nunchuck and the remote, I have repositioned the sensor. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't. This is so frustrating! I have used Wii Fit and Wii sports and have never had a problem like this. I have also done plenty of bicep curls with both bands and weights. I am not that out of shape that this should be so difficult. The trainer tells me to lower my arm when it is already lowered and tells me to stop shaking when I am standing perfectly still. Most of the other exercises work fine, though I have had a problem with the one where you stand with your hands facing your front thigh and lift arms to chest with your elbow out. That takes a number of seconds to register that I have done the exercise.
I really would like to complete the 30 day challange, but if it continues to be this frustrating, I will return the game.
Any advise?|||I find with the bicep curls you really have to make sure you curl your wrist in when at the top, as for the bottom, not sure. The game is great but sure does have it's quirks
|||I am having the same troubles with the bicep curls and am very frustrated. I can do every exercise the ACTIVE way, but this one. I hope more people respond back with suggestions. I will try to curl my wrist more, but I am pretty sure I am already doing that.|||It's not just you. For some reason, that exercise doesn't always register. EA Tech Support didn't have any suggestion other than to replicate the trainer as close as possible (duh).
I have found that if I'm too close to the TV, it will lock up and then you have to wait for a minute before it resets and goes to the next rep. For me, at least six feet behind the TV seems to work best. I also moved the motion sensor to the top of the TV and that seemed to help a bit as well.
Despite this annoying flaw, I do love this game though and have found it to be the most effective workout I've tried for the Wii. I hope EA can issue a patch that allows the bicep curl to register better.|||Well, it's helpful to know that others are having the same issue. I will also try to curl my wrists a bit more.
I was concerned that i was too close to the sensor. Unfortunately, I have a very small space to work with and am already doing the workouts sideways to the television so I can have the sensor about 4-5 feet away. I will see if there is some way I can reconfigure the room to make it work.
|||I haven't had any real problems with bicep curls. The bicep curl to shoulder press combo gives me some problems at the end of the curl, but curls by themselves don't. I'm guessing that the remote and nunchuk need to make at leas a 1/2 turn to register. If you're holding them facing out at the bottom of the curl, make sure they face in at the top of the curl. I don't think you need to turn your wrists any extra, but it might help if you have trouble. You might also want to check your starting position to make sure the remote and nunchuk can go through the full range of motion the game expects. For example, because of a low ceiling in my room, I generally start with the controllers lower down if I have to jump so that I can still make them travel a similar distance from start to finish. I hope this helps. Good luck.|||This is the exercise I had most trouble with (except for the side to side jumps!)
Things I found helpful to get it to register the curl:
1 Before starting, rotate the top of the remote and nunchuk slightly towards you in you hand. This way, at the top of the curl, it tilts further, helping the registration
2 Instead of moving directly up with the lower arm, kind of move it in a circle outwardly, purposely
3 Keep moving it up until the forearm is as near to the biceps as possible (without straining of course). Ie, nearer than you would think is needed
4 At the very end of the raise, lift the elbow up slightly, further tilting the hand towards the shoulder.
5 Hold still after all that
Hope this helps!|||I have had the same exact problem with these darn bicep curls. It is sooooooooooooooo frustrating! I get stuck waiting for it to register as still as humanly possible while it tells me to stop shaking the left remote. UGGGH. Otherwise I really like it.|||I am also having problems with my Bicep Curl exercise. I hope it gets fix soon so that I don't need to keep skipping this part of the exercise. I love EA Sports Active better than Jillian Michaels, My Fitness Coach and Wii Fit.
|||Some of the exercises do not work with all wii controllers. If using original Wii controllers I have had no problems but with my wireless nunchuck some excercises like squats give same kind of problems that you are having. Try if you can find any position for controllers to make those bicep curls work. I either have not found any good reason or fix for these problems.|||These are excellent advice !!!
I tried it today and it worked, the remote didn`t lock once and I was able to go through with all exercises in one :)
Thanks :)

|||I am so glad to read the problems other people are having, I thought I was the only one about to throw my nunchuck into the TV. When I do the bicep curls, bicep curls with kickbacks, and bicep curls with shoulder presses, it very rarely recognizes the movements. I stand as still as possible and curl my arms, but UUUUGGHHHHH! Nothing! The only thing I can do is skip the exercise which does not help when you are trying to burn as many calories as possible. I did the 30 day challenge on medium intensity and didn't have any problems. Now that I am on high intensity 30 day challenge, it gives me trouble daily. I also have problems when I am doing the running segment, I keep the same pace throughout the workout and at some points it says perfect, then it says too slow. Not sure how to fix this problem either. I will try the suggestions posted here and hope that I have more success than I have been having. I do really enjoy the Wii Active and have seen results but get very frustrated when the sensor does not recognize the movements. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.|||The bicep curl intructions are WRONG. You must curl your wrist towards your shoulders and hold, it will then recognize the movement. As for fast kickups I have given up and hold the numchuck in my left hand ( suggestion from this board) and move my arms with my legss and it registers.|||For fast kick ups you have to lean forward. The minute I stop leaning forward, it doesn't register and my avatar starts doing the slow kick ups.
