Disappointment Sets In - No Sensors Work Out Of The Box (PS3)

I was very excited when my EA Sports Active 2 arrived in the mail today. I purchased it brand new from eBay and couldn't wait to get home from work tonight to try it out.
I un-boxed it slowly and the anticipation began to build. Finally I was going to be able to start a decent workout routine in the comfort of my own living room!
I inserted the batteries in the Heart Rate Sensor first...
Right away, I thought something was odd.
The blue lights started flashing non-stop without pushing any buttons and the green sensor inside was shining brightly..and I hadn't even done anything yet.
I put batteries in the rest thinking maybe it was supposed to work that way.
I popped in the disc and did the software update and the game started up.
The cool music started and I was ready to get moving!
I watched the tutorial on putting on the sensors..after all, I wanted to do everything correctly to get the most out of my new purchase!
So...now comes the time to connect everything and I'm excited to see my heart rate on the screen for the first time.
The checklist comes up....
USB sensor...check
Heart Rate Sensor..........waiting.....it's still blinking..nothing...I press the button...still blinking...nothing. I hold in the button....still blinking...nothing. Finally a popup asks me if I'm having problems....well D'UH!
I attempt the re-syncing process is suggests but it never gets past the heart monitor sync...as it keeps blinking.
I try the other sensors. They blink when I press the button...and blink for a minute or so...but then stop blinking and never sync up.
So..I come on here only to find that this is a massively common problem.
Disappointment sets in and I wonder if EA Sports Active 2 was worth he purchase. Maybe I'll return it and exchange it for a Wii Fit...which I KNOW works.
I have come to expect more from EA Sports with the quality of their games and assumed that I could expect that same high quality from Active 2....well..you know what they say when you "assume".
Lesson Learned.....EA Sports Active 2 is already an Epic Fail in my eyes.
Thanks for listening...I feel a bit better having vented. Anyone else have similar experiences? I'd love to read that there are more who share my misery.
Have a great day!
Boston_Doc|||I have Active 2 for Wii, NFL Training camp for Wii, Active 2 for PS3, That's 7 sensors for almost 80 workouts without a problem.|||I've had EASA 2 for the Wii since it came out last November and got the PS3 version about a month ago .... I've had no problems with any of the sensors.|||In a twist of irony....
I gave a quick count of my PS3 games when I got home this evening and my defective EA Sports Active 2 is my 13th game purchase since I bought my PS3 in December.
Lucky #13! *LOL*
On the brighter side...the seller on eBay who I got the set from was very helpful and friendly and is shipping me three sensors out of a brand new box and giving me a 25% refund for the trouble. Now THAT is customer service! He doesn't even want me to send the defectives back to him...he told me to keep them and that if I can get them going, I have a second set.
Can't wait for the replacement set arrives so I can give Active 2 a go! :)
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Boston_Doc|||Great. Hope the new set works perfectly and you have fun with the game.|||I too have been plagued by the same issues and as a result have had to exchange my Active 2 for PS3 three times! Lucky for me the good people at EB games have been very accommodating. The first two that I brought home had issues with the USB key. In both cases the system didn't recognize that it was plugged in regardless of what I tried to do (unplugging, plugging back in, restarting...)
Finally! on the third package all systems are go! The sensors all fired up without any delay at all, it probably took all of 20 seconds to get going. I don't want to say that this game is worth all of that hassle...but it is pretty frickin awesome when it works properly. So all of you who are struggling with technical problems, stick with it if you want a good fitness program.
I've just finished my first workout and I suppose I underestimated this game. I set it to the hardest level right off the bat and it destroyed me. I would be hard pressed to exert that much effort on my own initiative. Within 5 mins. I had a full sweat going and was breathing rather hard. The trainer does a great job of taking you through the proper movements and keeping you on track. I would recommend that even if you are in moderately good shape, as I am (6'0" 200lbs), start off at the medium level if not beginner.
Anyway, like I said the game is fantastic and is capable of working exactly as demonstrated in the promotional videos, but very glitchy in terms of hardware. EA should definitely look into recalling these defective units as this has been quite a frustrating experience!

  1. After working out with the PS3 version of EA 2 for more than 18 months my heart rate monitor (left arm sensor) stopped working out of the blue...same story described above starts blinking and I never get the check mark...as I also have the wii bundle, I've tried to use the entire wii pack...everything worked just fine but for the same sensor! Can't understand what's going on! mad as hell!
